YouTube announced a new way for content creators on YouTube Shorts to earn money from advertising. This was announced by YouTube directly through a post on its official blog.
In the post, YouTube revealed that creators who focus on creating content on YouTube Shorts (short videos in vertical format) will be able to enroll in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) starting in 2023. "Now, we're extending our unique business model to this new format: revenue sharing is coming to Shorts! Starting as early as 2023, creators focused on Shorts can sign up for YPP," YouTube wrote on its blog.
The criteria for YouTube Shorts creators who can join the YouTube Partner Program next year are those who have at least 1,000 subscribers and have 10 million Shorts views in 90 days. By participating in the YouTube Partner Program, YouTube Shorts content creators who meet the criteria will be able to earn just as much as YouTube creators in the long format.
The sources of money income that YouTube Shorts content creators will be able to enjoy include advertising, funding, channel membership, brand sponsorship, to the Super Chat, Super Sticker, and Super Thanks features. Previously, the ad revenue sharing feature could only be enjoyed by YouTube creators who created horizontally formatted content. However, YouTube extends that policy to creators of YouTube Shorts. This seems to be done because of the popularity of the short format Shorts videos that skyrocketed on YouTube. According to YouTube, Shorts are used by 1.5 billion monthly users with 30 billion daily views. Not only that, YouTube's policy to share the ad revenue revenue with these creators is also a big step. Given that, TikTok is said to have yet to find a way to share ad revenue with content creators on its platform. This makes it difficult for creators on apps like TikTok to make a living from their own content. Revenue-sharing schemes from ads on YouTube Shorts In the same post, YouTube provides some details about the revenue-sharing schemes for ads on YouTube Shorts.

Well, every month, revenue from ads that appear between the creator's video Shorts will be accumulated. Furthermore, the income will be given to creators as a form of appreciation and help cover the costs of music licensing. "From the total amount allocated to content creators, they will get 45 percent of the revenue, which is distributed based on their share of total Shorts views," YouTube wrote.
